Creating Software Like a Band Plays Jazz: The Future of Software Delivery
A conversation with Visionaries: Grady Booch & Erich Gamma
Broadcast date: Tuesday, June
17, 2008
Time: 2:00 PM ET / 11:00 AM PT
Duration: One
hour
Overview:
The workforce of the future is changing,
becoming increasingly organizationally and globally distributed, fluid and
dynamic. And nowhere is this shift more visible than in the domain of software
delivery, where business and technical expertise is increasingly distributed
across town or around the world. Join us as two IBM luminaries, renowned
software futurist Grady Booch and Eclipse luminary Erich Gamma, explore IBM's
vision of the future and what IBM is doing to realize this vision with the Jazz
project and Rational Team Concert.
Featured
Speakers:
Grady
Booch, IBM Fellow
Grady Booch is recognized internationally for his
innovative work on software architecture and software engineering. A renowned
visionary, he has devoted his life's work to improving the effectiveness of
software developers worldwide. Grady served as Chief Scientist of Rational
Software Corporation since its founding in 1981 and continues to serve in that
capacity within IBM. Grady is one of the original authors of the Unified
Modeling Language (UML) and was also one of the original developers of several
of Rational's products. Grady is the author of six best-selling books, including
the UML Users Guide and the seminal Object-Oriented Analysis with Applications.
He has published several hundred articles on software engineering, including
papers published in the early '80s that originated the term and practice of
object-oriented design (OOD), plus papers published in the early 2000's that
originated the term and practice of collaborative development environments
(CDE).
Erich
Gamma, IBM Distinguished Engineer, Jazz Technical Lead
Erich has worked
with IBM For nearly two decades and has been at the forefront of innovation in
software development. Perhaps best known as the co-author of the landmark book
"Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software", Erich has
collaborated, with Kent Beck, to develop JUnit, the de facto standard in terms
of unit testing tools for Java. He was the original lead of the Eclipse Java
Development tools (JDT) and was on the Project Management Committee for the
Eclipse project. Erich is currently an IBM Distinguished Engineer at the IBM
Rational Zurich Research Lab in Zurich, Switzerland.
